BLACK DIABASE SURFACE FINISHES

Flamed

When the stone is flamed the crystals in the surface of the stone is blown out through a thermal shock induced by a gas flame.

Areas of use: flagstone paving, stairs etc to eliminate the risk of slipping. A flamed surface is also suitable for walls, ground floor façade covering and building veneers.

Bush hammered

A bush hammered surface is created through the use of a tempered metal tool attached to a pneumatic hammer.

Areas of use: flagstone paving, stairs etc to eliminate the risk of slipping. A bush hammered surface is also suitable for walls, ground level cladding and building veneers.

Honed

After the stone has been planed, the stone is honed using abrasive heads of increasingly finer grain. Depending on when you stop the process, you produce different grades of honing. Granite is generally finely honed.

Areas of use: Building veneers, indoor flooring, stairs and walls.

Polished

After the final honing, the surface is treated with a polishing abrasive and a soft polishing pad until a brilliant mirror-like surface is reached.

Areas of use: See finely honed surface. Countertops and tables where the surface may be exposed to fat and acid.
